Tudor and Stuart

This small but significant collection is particularly rich in dress accessories.

Coventry began to suffer economic decline during the Tudor period and the objects reflect this. There are around 150 small finds but many more boxes of bulk finds from sites across Coventry. We have significant ceramic finds from this period, including locally produced Midlands Yellow ware and Midlands Purple ware and imported Bartman jugs and wares from the Low Countries.

Other key objects include a rare apple baker, a leather sword scabbard from the reign of Henry VIII and a Dutch salt pot modelled as a lady holding a basket. The collection is rich in dress accessories such as buckles and lace chapes as well as shoes, weights and part of a bone flute.
