Art Kits

The Herbert's collection includes many works of art, including paintings by famous artists like L.S. Lowry. The outreach team aims to give even the youngest visitors an enjoyment and understanding of these treasures. Our Art Kits project gives pre-school children and their carers an opportunity to explore paintings in an exciting hands-on way.

The team has worked with an artist and an early years teacher to create seven Kits that can be used either in the gallery or in nurseries and playgroups. They all relate to paintings in the Herbert's collection and explore themes like shape, pattern, construction and natural objects.

Additional Kits on the themes of Gods and Monsters and Colour and Light will be launched in the near future. The Kits contain notes for group leaders, suggestions for activities and a wealth of wonderful materials for the children's own artwork . View the kits here.
