Dr. Dorothy Wilson MBE, FRSA, D.Univ.
Dorothy Wilson is Chief Executive and Artistic Director of mac birmingham. A former Deputy Director of West Midlands Arts, Dorothy’s work has always engaged a wide range of art forms as well as heritage interests. She is a practising musician and performs regularly in the West Midlands as a singer and violist. She is also a Voice coach to young singers.
Dorothy chairs the boards of a number of charitable organisations including the BBC Performing Arts Fund, Artrix - Bromsgrove’s arts centre, and Motionhouse Dance Theatre. She is a Council member of Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and a Board member of Dancefest Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Between 2001-2009 Dorothy served on the national board of Arts Council England and chaired their West Midlands Regional Council. She is an External Examiner for Coventry University and a regular mentor of participants on the Clore Fellowship programme.
Dorothy is an associate of The Leisure Consultancy Limited, and UK, Ireland and Scandinavia representative for the Alexander String Quartet (San Francisco). She was ITV Central's 2005 Midlander of the Year, Arts and Media, and has an honorary doctorate from Birmingham City University, then UCE. She has appeared in The Birmingham Post regional Power 50 every year since its inauguration. Dorothy was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 2006 and was recognised for her services to the arts in the 2011 New Years Honours list.
