Alison has worked at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum since 2003. She manages the Herbert's Learning and Inclusion team, which works with schools, families, and people who have not been regular museum visitors in the past.

After completing her Postgraduate Diploma in Art Gallery and Museum Studies in 1987, Alison worked at Hitchin Museum in Hertfordshire and at Luton Museum in Bedfordshire. Her previous roles included caring for social history, costume and art collections, and working on exhibitions and community projects. In recent years her job at the Herbert has enabled her to specialise in learning and community outreach work.

Alison and her team work closely with other staff to make sure that our displays and services are relevant and welcoming for schools and for the widest possible range of visitors. The team carry out many partnership projects with local organisations to create new exhibitions and educational sessions and resources, and to collect the histories of under-represented groups.
