Chris has worked as a senior manager for the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum since 2004.
Subsequent to a career as a field archaeologist working in the UK and the Middle East (including excavating near the pyramids in Egypt), Chris has worked in museums since 1990. He has previously worked as a curator or manager at Tewkesbury Borough Museum, The Ashmolean Museum and The British Museum and completed a masters in Museum Studies in 2000 at Leicester University.
Chris has overall responsibility for the management of senior officers, resources and budgets relating to the museum side of the Herbert and the creative programmes it offers. He has a key reponsibility to the development of policies and strategies relating to these areas. These include the development of the Coventry City Council Acquisition and Disposal Policy which outlines the key aims of collection development for the museum and the maintaining of Accreditation status for the Herbert, the Priory Visitor Centre and Lunt Roman Fort , which is a national standard for museums in the U.K.
Chris is part of the Creative Programming Steering Group which determines the exhibitions and main event programmes for the service. Our key aim is to offer a varied programme that will cater to different types of audiences as well as offer a high quality and exciting experience.
Another key part of Chris's work is the development of partnerships with museums and other institutions which can offer new opportunities for project work, exhibitions and events in the Herbert. In addition to regional museum partners such as Birmingham Museum and Wolverhampton Art Gallery, other key partnerships include organisations as varied as Coventry University, the British Museum, and the Contemporary Art Society.
Chris is also working with the Head of Marketing and Communication on the development of a Friends organisation for the service.
