Martin has worked at the Herbert since 1998. His first role was Keeper of Social History, but from 2003 he has been Senior Curator.
His work involves leading the curatorial team which is responsible for managing the museum's collections and making them accessible to the public. The team looks after a wide and diverse range of collections which includes social and industrial history, archaeology, natural history and visual arts.
The team was responsible for developing and delivering the permanent exhibition galleries as part of the major redevelopment of the Herbert, which was completed in October 2008.
Martin's previous work in museums has included jobs at Woodhorn Colliery Museum in Northumberland and Hitchin Museum in Hertfordshire.
He is an Associate of the Museums Association.
