Nigel joined the staff at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in June 2009 having previously been involved in managing various arts venues around the country for over 30 years. He was Head of Customer Services at Northampton's Royal & Derngate Theatres for over 16 years prior to becoming a member of the front-line team at the Herbert, and before that he worked at venues in Plymouth, Cardiff and Poole.
As House Manager, Nigel's principal responsibility is to ensure the smooth day to day running of the building. A wide variety of events take place at the Herbert every day and Nigel is involved in planning and co-ordinating the arrangements for them. He and his team also provide the first point of contact for all visitors to the museum and aim is to ensure that everyone who comes through the doors receives the best possible service at all times.
Nigel's other responsibilities include ensuring that the building is safe, secure and clean at all times, arranging for any necessary repairs to be undertaken and dealing with any emergencies which arise - fire alarms, accidents, etc.
In a building as large and varied as the Herbert, no two days are the same!
