Alfred Herbert News magazine 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1969

I chose these magazines in remembrance of my granddad Bhagat Singh Johal who worked at the Herbert factory. Although the work was hard my granddad enjoyed working at Alfred Herbert's and these magazines remind me of the firm he spoke of fondly. One of the highlights of my mum's childhood was attending the factory's Christmas party, meeting Father Christmas and getting a gift. I really love working at the Herbert and am glad to be keeping up my family's connection with Sir Alfred Herbert and I know my granddad was too.

Large companies like Alfred Herbert Ltd were more than just a place of work. They were also a focus for the social lives of many of their employees and their families. Alfred Herbert News kept employees up to date with sports and social events. It also had articles about the company and articles of general interest.

Herbert's had boxing, golf and rifle clubs, football and netball teams, and gardening, photographic and dramatic societies. There were also regular dinners and outings for various departments in the company. Many people felt a great pride in working for Herbert's.
