Harriet Rumbelow chose….
Shoes
I chose the shoes because I enjoy buying and wearing shoes, but these black ones I liked because they are sophisticated and look like they would be worn with a long elegant black dress. The little red ones are a complete contrast, and may have been a young child's very first pair of shoes.

What the curator says:
Court shoes, 1959 to 1964
Child's slippers, 1986 to 1987
These are more than just shoes! The interest in these shoes lies in the fact that they are part of larger collections of objects relating to two individual people. They help us to tell the story of these Coventry people.
The court shoes come from a collection of clothes which belonged to the donor's mother, Mrs Hamilton. Some of the clothes were made by M and J Hobley, a costumier in Coventry.
The slippers are part of a group of objects relating to a baby girl born in 1984. Other items include her mother's maternity wear, nappies and a teething biscuit.
