Woven silk postcard of the Godiva Procession
The story of Lady Godiva is a key part of Coventry’s identity and history. Having ancestors from Coventry that were very much involved in the history of the city has encouraged me to develop a particular interest in the city's heritage and thus my interest in the subject. The skill involved in creating such a detailed image with such a delicate material is also fascinating to me.

Woven silk postcard of the Godiva Procession, 1900 to 1920
This silk postcard shows the Godiva Procession going along Broadgate and turning the corner into Hertford Street. The City Hotel is on the corner. A bust of Peeping Tom was placed in the top window of the hotel, looking out over the procession.
The postcard was made by WH Grant and Company. This Coventry weaving company made ribbons, labels, badges, postcards and silk pictures.
