Louise Brown chose….
a pair of women’s boots
I chose these boots because I like the style of them and I wonder what it would have been like to wear them. The lady who wore them would probably have felt up to date with fashion.

What the curator says:
Pair of women’s boots, 1914 to 1918, collected in 1966.
These boots are made of leather and dark green gabardine. There is a trademark on the inside which reads The Fetish! At the time they were made, women’s fashions were becoming more practical. Skirts were at mid-calf length, which meant that footwear was more visible than before. These boots are fairly sturdy and practical, which may reflect the fact that many women had jobs outside the home during the First World War, such as working in factories or as bus conductors.
