The Herbert's permanent galleries are regularly used by local schools and our Learning team have created online learning resources for teachers and pupils based on these displays. However, we had not previously produced curriculum-based resources for adult learners. There are over 2,000 adult learners in Coventry taking courses in English and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and we have recently created resources aimed at them and their tutors.
Focusing on the history displays in the Herbert, we have worked with a group of experienced tutors to devise stimulating and enjoyable literacy activities which adult learners can use in the museum and back in the classroom. We hope that this will introduce them to an inspiring new learning environment, give them the chance to find out more about local and national history, and encourage them to visit the Herbert independently for further informal learning and as a leisure activity.
The new resources are now available on the Learning section of the Herbert website. Follow the link on the right to find them.
