Many people living in Coventry do not have English as a first language and may have difficulty in finding out what the Herbert can offer them. The museum's Inclusion and Media teams are making some short films in community languages to promote our services to new audiences.
Stacey Bains, the Herbert's Cultural Diversity Officer, is leading the project to create a promotional film in Punjabi. Many older members of Coventry's South Asian community have Punjabi as a first language and may feel more confident in Punjabi than in English. Local people from Asian backgrounds who are already in regular contact with the Herbert are helping us to make a film highlighting all that the Herbert has to offer. The film will be shown to Asian groups meeting locally and we hope that it will encourage them to visit us.
Anne-Marie Sandos, our Social Inclusion Officer, is leading on the project to create a film in Polish. She has been working with students from Coventry Polish School who have learned film making skills during workshops with media professionals. The film will be aimed at older members of Coventry's established Polish community and at Poles who have arrived in the city more recently.
The films will be ready for use during Spring 2010. For further information about the Punjabi film contact Stacey Bains on 024 7629 4766 or send her an email at stacey.bains@theherbert.org.
