Here is a selection from our previous work with community groups in Coventry.
The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum's outreach team has worked with local people on a variety of exciting projects. They range from exhibitions to music, art and community history projects with children, young people and adults.

Autoportret (English version)
In 2008 the Herbert worked on a photography project with a group of young people who attend Coventry's Polish School. The result is a virtual exhibition on The Herbert's website.

The Ray King Experience
Vibert Cornwall was Coventry's first Black professional musician, and under the name of Ray King became a leading soul performer in the 1960s and 1970s.
Deaf History Project
In 2009 the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum worked with other museum partners in the West Midlands on a community history project to explore the working lives of Deaf people in the region.
Transatlantic Slavery
In 2007 The Herbert worked with students from black supplementary schools to explore the legacy of slavery through historical research and performance workshops
Virtual Gallery
This project gave local people the chance to create online exhibitions using items from The Herbert's collections.
Journey to the West: Chinese Community Project
The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum worked with young and older members of the local Chinese community to record memories of food and festivals.
Empire at War
This project recorded the wartime experiences of Coventry people from black and Asian backgrounds.
Coming to Coventry
The Coming to Coventry project recorded and celebrated the stories of the pioneers who established the city's South Asian community.
Inshuti - Friend
Inshuti - Friend* was an accessible exhibition that examined the role of friendship in the rebuilding of Rwanda since the genocide.
A Light on Ramadan
For the 2006 Festival of Muslim Cultures The Herbert worked with young Muslim men to explore faith issues through a visual arts and media project.

Moving Here provides online access to a vast range of material relating to migration to England.

An interactive project working with the older generation of Coventry and the Herbert collection.

What Is Art? introduced young people to the work of different artists and gave them opportunities to experiment with a range of materials and techniques.
