Inshuti – Friend examined the role of friendship in the rebuilding of Rwanda since the genocide. The exhibition was inspired by Andrea Mbarushimana and her experiences working in Rwanda, and was developed in partnership with Andrea, The Herbert and Coventry University's Centre for Forgiveness and Reconciliation.
The exhibition used a specially created graphic story about two boys, Hutu and Tutsi, facing the growing divisions of the genocide; supported by photographs of modern day Rwanda showing people at work, in gatherings and celebrations and a large range of activities and resource books.
Inshuti – Friend looked at how a country has to find a future and overcome past divisions. The activities were practical tasks which explored universal themes raised by Rwanda's story.
The exhibition was designed to be welcoming to younger visitors and families with activities aimed at all ages, and a collection of other graphic novels and story books exploring real-world issues, many of which were appealing to younger children.
