A Thing About Machines 2009
Last year's festival was inspired by Tangerine Dream's 1976 concert in Coventry Cathedral. The festival explored the relationship art can have with its surroundings. Transformation of a space, transportation from a place, response to surroundings, interaction and reaction.
A Thing About Machines is Coventry's first and best OTHER Art Festival dedicated to local hero Delia Derbyshire exploring art and music that uses, reinterprets, reviews or renews technology invented in the past 100 years..

Inspired by Sir Alfred original vision and the architectural plans for the original Gallery I am an Insturment is an installation on the staircase that allows visitors to play with and explore the full height of the building. The music contains sounds recorded around the Gallery and elements of Lady Herbert’s speech at the opening of the Gallery in 1960.
