Almost one million people have visited the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum since its redevelopment in October 2008.

Almost one million people have visited the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum since its transformation in October 2008. In celebration the Coventry Heritage & Arts Trust has commissioned a new unique piece of artwork that visitors to the gallery may even be included in!

The Herbert has compiled images from the last three years from every event, exhibition, workshop and performance it has held, as well as photos representing its collections and work with local communities, schools and partner organisations. These photos have been digitally composited to create an image of the gallery and museum's founder and great philanthropist Sir Alfred Herbert. Anyone who has visited the Herbert since 2008 could find their own face within the work.

This piece of art will be displayed in the covered court area of the gallery over the next few months,  and a smaller framed version will be given to our one millionth visitor to keep. People who want a chance to win this special prize should visit the gallery during November, making this the perfect chance to see the George Shaw: I woz ere exhibition or enjoy our largest ever programme of Festive events.

With the investment, support and vision of Coventry City Council, Arts Council England and numerous other partners  we have managed to touch the lives of nearly 1,000,000 visitors in an inspiring, thought provoking and lasting way whilst becoming an integral part of the Coventry landscape'.

The Photo Mosaic image is of Herbert Art Gallery & Museum founder Sir Alfred Herbert. It has been constructed from over 7,000 images portraying the wide variety of work the gallery has delivered over the last three years.

Look closely and you will see objects from our collections, the important work of our learning, social inclusion, media, curatorial, marketing, front of house and the temporary exhibitions and events teams.You may also spot some of the important partners who we work with across the UK, awards we have won and most importantly YOU! Audiences are at the heart of everything we do so thank you for getting inspired over the last three years.

A full size 4.1 m x 4.1m version of the mosaic will soon be displayed in the covered court to mark out 1,000,000th visitor.
