At 2.40pm on Thursday 18 March the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum welcomed its 500,000th visitor through its doors.

Mr Roland Moore, also known as Chick to his friends, of Colney Heath in Hertfordshire attended the museum with his wife Mrs Clarice Moore and son Michael Moore taking advantage of the FREE admission.

The Moore family made the un-planned visit to the museum after an afternoon at Coventry Cathedral.  Mrs Moore said "We looked across from the cathedral because of the water jets and thought let's go have a look. And then you pounced on us".

The Moores won over £100 of items from the Herbert Shop, including books, models and toys which will be useful when they become grandparents to twins in June.

Chris Kirby, Head of Collections and Programmes commented "We're really happy that we could give these prizes to the Moores. The fact that they're from outside of Coventry shows just how much the city has to offer and we're proud that we are a part of that.  We hope that they and their family enjoy the tour and the prizes and come back again soon".
