Coventry Gets Creative

To win a George Shaw original watercolour

Across the city people have been getting creative by painting, sticking, modelling, clicking and sketching their favourite Coventry landscapes in a valiant bid to win an original George Shaw Watercolour.

The world-renowned Turner Prize nominated artist, George Shaw, has given the Herbert one of his beautiful watercolours to give away and get Coventry creating. The deadline day for submitting an application of intent was 16 January, by which we'd received over 90 completed entry forms.

The competition calls for people to create their own artwork in any media they like. With each artwork comes a memory or a meaning of what that landscape means to the creator.

As seen in the George Shaw: I woz ere exhibition, Shaw's work utilises ordinary scenes and makes them extraordinary by portraying them through his eyes and his experiences; the Herbert is asking people to do the same in their own unique style.

Head of Marketing and Communications Jamie Perry of the Herbert commented "Thanks to the generosity of George in offering this unique prize, a diverse range of people across the city have been inspired to get creative. Entrants range from 4 to 94 and we are busy behind the scenes preparing to see some of the works that will be submitted during February".

Each of the forms, and in turn, artworks, comes complete with a memory and a meaning behind its creation.

The George Shaw: I woz ere exhibition runs until 11 March 2012.
