Activities were planned at both the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Transport Museum as part of the city-wide commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz. In total over 6,000 visitor figures travelled between both venues making it one of the most popular family events the venues have held so far.
Re-enactors, storytellers and artists and the Herbert's own Learning Team ran a fantastic range of WW2 themed sessions and workshops. Activities were held throughout the museum including salvage sorting, dig for victory, rationing, make-do-and-mend and ARP training. The project was devised by both the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and the Coventry Transport Museum and marketed by both venues jointly. Future partnerships and collaborations on joint marketing and programming are already in the planning stages for May 2011.
Jamie Perry Head of Marketing and Communications commented 'We were delighted to work with the Coventry Transport Museum on an event that would help introduce both of our audiences to each others venues and open up part of the cities rich heritage to a new generation of attendees. Collaborating transparently and working together for a common goal of engaging the local community are aims we both share and we are already in the early stages of planning our next joint activity'.
