The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is looking for some new friends to engage with and champion the gallery. Friends of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is a social organisation that provides a forum for people to meet, be entertained and work together towards a good cause.
The new Friends of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum will be integral in supporting the Herbert who are keen to engage people with the enthusiasm, energy and time to be involved.
The Herbert looks to The Friends as a consultative body and ask them to express views about aspects of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and what it offers. They play a key role as an advocate for the museum to the people of Coventry; promoting the organisation and its work through personal and professional networks and public events.
The Friends help to raise funds for The Herbert, to help acquire new items for the collections or enhance other aspects of the organisation's facilities. A previous Friends' scheme helped acquire a Pistol from the Coventry Canal Company. The Pistol originates from 1770 and was issued to employees of Coventry Canal Company for protection against thieves and looters.
Members of The Friends are also an important source of knowledge, bringing personal skills and experience to supporting the Herbert's organisation and its activities.
Friends of the Herbert founding member and former Collections, Research and Development Manager for CVOne Pete Walters said "The Herbert represents the heart and soul of the ever-changing city of Coventry. We're looking for people who want to be part of the gallery; people who will represent and cherish what the gallery stands for. What people get out of this organisation is unquantifiable. The sense of pride and achievement in seeing a campaign come to fruition is amazing".
Members of the scheme will also get discounts at the Herbert, unique guided tours and talks and behind the scenes visits with the experts from the Herbert as well as many other benefits.
