Over the last three years 96% of Coventry's schools have made use of our learning services at the Herbert, Lunt Roman Fort and Priory Visitor Centre, or benefited from our schools outreach service.
The greatest demand is traditionally from primary schools, but we have recently had more success in attracting visits from secondary pupils as well. Much of this has been a result of the expansion of our programme of active learning sessions on art-based themes.
Recently a new session linked to the popular George Shaw: I woz ere exhibition has given pupils the chance to explore the work of the Turner Prize nominee and then to create their own cityscapes through practical printmaking and mixed media collage.
Teachers greatly value the expertise of the Herbert's learning officers in engaging students with the paintings displayed in our galleries, and consistently tell us that it builds their own confidence in analysing works of art with their class.
