An award linked to Sir Alfred Herbert's inclusion in the Coventry Walk of Fame has been kindly donated to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum by Herbert family recipient Herry Lawford this week. Mr Lawford, the step grandson of Sir Alfred, has a keen interest in his family history and is developing an informative resource about Sir Aflred's life that can now be accessed via http://alfredherbert.blogspot.com/

The walk of fame awards pays tribute to the men and women who have either hailed from Coventry and achieved great things in their careers or have had a significant impact on the city. The names were nominated and voted for by the public and once again reflect Coventry's heritage, industry, music, film, art, culture, politics and sport.

Sir Alfred Herbert, city's most famous industrialist, amongst many wide reaching acts of kindness, achievement and compassion, was the founder of the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum back in 1960. The art gallery and museum has recently under gone a £20 million redevelopment and now fully realises the innovation, inspiration and aspirations of Sir Alfred's vision attracting over 220,000 visitors within the last year.

Herry Lawford (pictured), Step Grandson to Sir Alfred Herbert commented 'I was delighted to receive the award on behalf of my grandfather. Although I have become quite fond of it I felt that it deserved to be in its rightful home - in the City of Coventry. With this in mind I could think of no better place than Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and are delighted to gift this on behalf of Sir Alfred's remaining family.'

Keith Railton (pictured) Chair of Coventry Heritage & Arts Trust added 'We are delighted to have been gifted this historic award on behalf of the Herbert family. As we approach the 50th Anniversary since the launch of Sir Alfred's founded Art Gallery & Museum and after our substantial redevelopment we are truly seeing the benefits of his cultural vision to the people of Coventry, Warwickshire and beyond. This reward helps remind stakeholders, staff and visitors alike of this important historical connection'.
