Summer is always a busy time here and this year is no exception. We have already hosted several activities in July to complement the Festival of British Archaeology which ran from 17th July to 1st August.
Our 'Past into Present' table enabled visitors to handle real and replica Roman artefacts and see if they could match them to their modern day equivalent. Families and visitors of all ages pitted their wits against Max Mole in 'Max Mole's Prize Discovery Trail' which took visitors on a journey of riddles around the site where clues had to be solved to win a prize – you can try it yourselves as the trail will run all summer!
Visitors of all ages also had the opportunity to handle and explore some of the objects found at the fort with Paul Thompson. This day proved hugely successful with 80 visitors enjoying this hands on experience. We worked out that with a 15 minute lunch break Paul talked continuously to groups from 10.30 – 4.30pm! Maureen and Ian also run special tours aimed at young people and families to enable them to discover what lay beneath this unique site.
The summer will continue with special craft activity days in August and end with a packed Bank Holiday weekend where visitors can create their own replica Romans to take home.
