As part of his visit to the USA in July 2010, British Prime Minister David Cameron has given US President Barack Obama Twenty First Century City by artist Ben Eine as an official gift.
Reacting to the news, Ben Eine wrote on his website; 'So its been a weird day today, so much so i've decided to visit my website.
David Cameron has given one of my paintings to President Obama in an Art Swap.'
Ben Eine is one of several high profile street artists, including Banksy, Shepard Fairey and Jamie Hewlett, that will have work exhibitied at the Herbert later this year as part of our Street Art exhibition.
Street Art features work from the V&A collection, brought together in an effort to capture an ephemeral contemporary aesthetic and a form of printmaking that have influenced mainstream graphics. Most notably recent advertising has been using the language of street stencils, plundering underground visuals in an effort to appeal to the young consumer.
Street Art comes to the Herbert from Saturday 9 October 2010 and runs until Sunday 16 January 2011. Admission is FREE! Find out more here.
