Blitz

This was the night when the city caught on fire. It caught fire because the Germans dropped so many bombs. The ‘Coventry blitz’ happened on 14 November 1940. It was like a thunderstorm raining bombs.

The blitz was the bombing of Britain from 1940-1941 by German planes in World War 2. The word Blitz comes from the German word 'blitzkrieg' meaning 'lightning war'.
