Outreach
Outreach - Bring history to life in your classroom!
All sessions are based around our inspiring handling collection and are
ideal to prepare for or reinforce a museum visit. Activities for KS1&2
can also be adapted to suit KS3, GCSE exam revision and special needs.
Sessions last approximately 45 minutes and can be booked independently
or as an extension session to a class visit to The Herbert.
Outreach sessions are only available to Coventry schools
Second World War – Life on the Home Front
Discover the impact the Second World War had on daily life in Coventry.
A wide variety of stimulating objects, costume and archive resources
bring an important era of Coventry's history to life!
Britain since the 1930s
An insight into progress since 1930 – make a call on a dial telephone,
try your hand at ironing 1950s style and guess the mystery items! Our
exciting objects illustrate changes in technology and materials, home
life, and popular culture over the last 80 years.
Victorian life
Our collection of real and replica objects are waiting to transport your
pupils back in time to the Victorian years. Original items including
fascinating corsets and dapper top hats are used to enhance this hands-on
experience.
Toys & Games
Compare toys and games of today with some fantastic real and replica
toys from the past. Toys include a wooden Roman horse, Victorian stereoscope
and 1950s dinky cars right through to present day comparisons.
Time Travellers
Investigate fantastic mystery objects dating back as far as 70 million
years ago! This is an excellent activity to introduce basic chronological
knowledge and sequencing skills. The range of historical periods also offers
a wealth of stimulus suitable for any project based on the theme of treasure.
