spotlight in new 'What's In Store' display

A new display in the Herbert's What’s in Store gallery takes inspiration from our collections to explore the theme of the outdoors in Britain.

The display examines different aspects of the outdoors: the creative inspiration it offers, the activity of gardening, parks for memorial and recreational purposes, and entertainment.

Through objects from the Herbert’s collections - social history, natural history and visual arts - the display illustrates the different ways that the outside has been enjoyed in the past and continues to be today.   Visitors to the new display will discover the past practice and materials of gardening; explore historical outdoor entertainment events and memorial park souvenirs; say hello to nature’s friends the hedgehog and robin; and see how gardens were portrayed through art.

The display is open in the What’s in Store gallery now.
