Nina
and Frederick
Nina and Frederick is a tribute that includes intriguing gossip, slides,
Calypso and Folk Music from Mango Vendor, to The Banana Boat Song, and
Puff the Magic Dragon. Performances and film work produced at the Herbert
combine a magical theatricality and playfulness with a documentary approach
to exlplore the biography of the original singers alongside the motivations
and delusions of their fans.
The feature film, Tribute, filmed on location at The Herbert and elsewhere
follows the story of two semi-professional singers (Nina and Frederick)
as they try to make success of their tribute act to obscure 60's singing
duo Nina and Frederik. Nina and Frederick inhabit the world of pubs, clubs
and karaoke bars - a world of look-a-like bands where everyone is doing
Elvis or Abba. Nina and Frederick have one thing going for them, they
are the only tribute to sixties duo Nina and Frederik in the whole country,
reviving hits like "Listen to the Ocean", and "Little Donkey".
Unfortunately, hardly anyone can remember the original duo and those that
can are too old to bring in the bucks. But Nina and Frederick have hope,
they have talent and most of all they have each other. By refusing to
give up Nina and Frederick take us on a remarkable journey where dreams
meet reality head on.
