Crafts of the Punjab Family Day

10am – 4pm

Join us to celebrate the opening of our Crafts of the Punjab exhibition with a day full of family friendly activities. Watch and join in with traditional Punjabi dance and music performances, help us to build a giant Rangoli artwork, hear from professional storytellers and take part in various craft activities.

Interactive Folk Dance Performance
Join in with this interactive performance and experience traditional folk dances that have influenced many of today’s dance styles.
The last performance of the day will be accompanied by live music.
Covered Court, ground floor 10:45am, 1:15pm, 3:00pm
Each performance lasts for approximately 20 minutes. 
Free. Drop in, but sessions will start promptly at time specified.

Music Performance
A live performance by celebrated musicians and vocalists that personify the diversity of the Indian Sub-continent. The last performance of the day will accompany the interactive dance performance.
Covered Court, ground floor 11:15am, 12:45pm, 3:00pm
Each performance lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Free. Drop in, but sessions will start promptly at time specified.

Rangoli
Help us create a large scale Rangoli, a colourful, expressive art form that uses natural ingredients such as sand, rice, spices and flowers.
Covered Court, ground floor 10.30am – 3.30pm
Free. Drop in.

Interactive Storytelling
Enjoy a story based on Kalia, taken from the great epics of Indian Mythology. Suitable for ages 0-10, but all are welcome. 
The Studio, first floor 11.30am, 12.30am, 2.00pm
Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes. 
Free. Drop in, but sessions will start promptly at time specified.

Craft workshop: Decorated mirrors
Taking inspiration from the Crafts of the Punjab exhibition, use printmaking to create a beautiful frame for your mirror.
Learning Space 1, ground floor 10:30am – 3:30pm
£2 per child, under 2s free. Drop in.

Make and take: Armbands
Accessorise for the day with your own decorated armband.
First floor balcony, outside Gallery 1. 
All day, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Free. Drop in.

Mendhi
Take the opportunity to get your hand decorated with a traditional mendhi design.
Ground floor 10.30am – 12.30pm; 1.30pm – 3.30pm
*Henna takes approximately 10 minutes to dry, so please bear this in mind when planning your day.
£2 per person. Drop in.
