Natural Textile Dyeing Workshop

12.30pm – 3.30pm
Saturday 27 January 2018

Create a beautiful hand dyed scarf.

Inspired by the textiles within the Crafts of the Punjab exhibition, this wonderful workshop with Alex Goodman will show you how to create beautiful patterns with natural plant based dyes.

The fabric will use a traditional Japanese method of creating beautiful repeating patterns on fabric using folding, stitching and clamping. The results are remarkable geometric shapes and patterns created from using wooden blocks and strings.

There is no need to use chemical dyes and a washing machine to create these dye effects – we will simply use natural foraged materials. Alex creates beautiful colours plants and other found items, putting them via steaming.

Join us for a creative and experimental afternoon of learning about pattern and colour the natural way, and leave with a large and beautiful hand dyed scarf.
