Explore the Japanese tradition of furoshiki, which dates back over 1,200 years.

For ages 8-16
In this special silk painting masterclass, explore the Japanese tradition of furoshiki, which dates back over 1,200 years. These elegant fabric wraps offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional gift wraps.
Led by Amy Wilde, young artists will explore vibrant colours, brush techniques, and creative expression while learning the techniques to paint on silk. Whether you're a beginner or have some experience, this workshop provides the guidance needed to create stunning artwork. Children will experiment with various designs, ranging from bold patterns to flowing florals, and develop their unique pieces to treasure.
During this hands-on session, you'll master special silk painting techniques and learn how your finished creation becomes furoshiki (pronounced foo-roh-shee-kee) - perfect for gift-wrapping presents, carrying books, or displaying as art!
Parent’s are not required to stay but are welcome to do so.
*Admission to the museum is included in the price of the art masterclass for participants. Accompanying adults will be required to pay the museum entry fee upon arrival, but they do not need a ticket for the workshop.
