Easter Holidays: The Natural World

Throughout the Easter holidays, we will be offering a host of workshops using art and science to help us explore and be inspired by natural history. 

From fossils to habitats and life drawing from the collection, our hands on workshops will encourage families to engage with the natural world around us.

All workshops are drop in and suitable for age 4+ unless stated otherwise. 

Saturday 12 & Sunday 13 April
Nature Prints £1
10.30am - 12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.30pm
Design and print your own work of art inspired by the beautiful patterns of our natural world.

Monday 14 April
Beautiful Butterflies £1
10.30am -12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.00pm
Make a beautiful butterfly with stained glass wings using coloured glues and films.

The Hungry Caterpillar FREE
11.00 am & 1.00pm
This lively and interactive reading of the hungry caterpillar story will explain to our younger visitors where our beautiful butterflies come from!

Tuesday 15 April
Hop It! £1

Use craft materials to make a froggy family and a lily pad for them to live on.

At the Bottom of the Pond…FREE

Join an expert from Coombe Abbey Country Park on a short talk on frogs and other fascinating wildlife found at the bottom of a pond.

Wednesday 16 April
Erupting Volcanoes £1
10.30am - 12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.30pm
Make a model volcano and take home the instructions on how to experiment and erupt your volcano!

Thursday 17 April
Fabulous Fossils £2.50
10.30-11.30am
Learn about the formation of fossils through object handling, casting and then painting your own fossil.

Booking is required. £2.50 per child. Suitable for age 6+. Booking opens on the first day of the Easter activity programme, please call 024 7623 7521 or ask at reception.

Join us for a short talk with specimens from our collection about the bugs that we share our homes with. Eeuuuuhhh!

Friday 18 - Monday 21 April
Drawing from Nature FREE
10.00am – 4.00pm
Explore amazing animals from our natural history collection, experiment with the range of drawing materials on offer and get drawing on your own terms in this self-led session.

Tuesday 22 April
Beastly Bugs £1
10.30am -12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.00pm
Use art straws, model making techniques and colourful materials to make a beastly bug of your own design. There will be bugs from our natural history collection on hand for inspiration

Wednesday 23 April
X- rayed! £1
10.30am -12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.00pm
A great chance to look at some of our animal skeletons and create your own x-ray work of art.

Thursday 24 April
Beaking Mad £1

10.30am -12.30pm & 1.30pm - 3.00pm
Using junk modelling materials, make a hand puppet bird that can talk using a clever mechanism.

Life in the Air…FREE
1.30pm
A fantastic opportunity for children to meet an expert from Brandon Marsh Nature reserve at this informal family talk. Learn lots of interesting facts about our beautiful British birds and how we can attract them to our garden.

Friday 25 April
