Easter Holidays: Crafting Coventry’s Past

10:30am – 3:30pm

Tuesday 3 – Saturday 14 April (excluding Sundays)

Explore the history of Coventry from 700AD to the 1980s, as we craft a different part of Coventry’s past each day. Make your very own ‘Cofa’s Tree’, try your hand at wet wool felting, help us to rebuild the city wall, build a racing car, plus so much more!

Tuesday 3
Button Art Tree
It is believed that the name ‘Coventry’ comes from Cofa’s Tree, in 700 AD, which marked the boundary of the town. Create a beautiful memento to our city’s origins and create a colourful button art tree.

Wednesday 4
Godiva’s Horse Puppet
Using collage techniques create a horse puppet with moving legs to help bring the story of Lady Godiva from 1043 back to life again.

Thursday 5
Wet Wool Felting
Get messy with this fun and rather wet activity, as we explore Coventry’s wool trade industry from the 1300s. Blend wools together to make a stunning woollen work of art.

Friday 6
Rebuild the City Wall
Coventry’s city wall was demolished in 1534. Help us to rebuild it as you colour, collage and decorate a box ready to add to this installation in the museum.

During the English Civil war, prisoners from the Royalist armies were ‘sent to Coventry’. Help us garrison the city and make a hand powered cannon.

Tuesday 10
