The Summer Holidays Are Here!

Families in Coventry and Warwickshire won’t have to travel far from home to take in world-class exhibitions and immersive activities this summer.

We will be hosting a range of activities and exhibitions designed to keep the whole family entertained during the school holidays, with a packed schedule catering to all ages and interests.

The Herbert will launch its Crafting Coventry’s History workshops in July, giving children the chance to learn about the city’s history from Lady Godiva, Medieval and Tudor Times through to Victorians and World War Two culminating in the 2 Tone era.

The programme will be held across five weeks from Saturday, July 24 to Friday, September 3, giving young visitors the freedom to pursue their own artistic impulses and take their fantastic creations home.

The exhibition, 2 Tone: Lives & Legacies, will also run at the gallery throughout the summer, giving visitors an insight into Coventry’s rich musical history as well as the genre’s impact on culture and politics to this day.

For an additional culture-kick, visit UnNatural History at the Herbert. The exhibition, which explores themes such as climate change and extinction, features leading artists and naturalists from across the globe and runs until Sunday, August 22.

At the Coventry Transport Museum, Our Future Moves – which gets underway on July 17 – will give visitors the opportunity to unearth a glimpse into the future of transport, technology and a sustainable environment.

The exhibition will be an unmissable family experience, offering an insight into future cities and the technologies driving these changes.
But that’s not all! The museum will also host a Summer of Play, featuring a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) workshops for children of all ages

The Lunt Roman Fort, is the place to encounter costumed soldiers, play Roman ball games, board games and complete a fun discovery trail.

Lisa Ford, Learning Manager at Culture Coventry said: “Our three highlight exhibitions provide ways to explore how our wider collective history is unfolding and are equally exciting for families, art and transport enthusiasts, people interested in the environment, as well as researchers and academics.

“The fun and playful learning programme will provide a whole host of entertainment and creative activities teaching new skills throughout the summer holidays. We are expecting a huge demand, so we are encouraging people to book as soon as possible.”
