Coventry Biennial Artists’ Residency: Katy & Rebecca Beinart

Drop in | Included with admission
Artists Katy and Rebecca Beinart will be in residence at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum from 9th – 14th November, developing their collaborative work.
The duo’s grandmother Margaret Stanton’s archive is housed in Coventry, at The Modern Records Centre, and includes hundreds of letters written over decades of civil rights campaigning. Alongside correspondence, the archive is rich with materials from social movements Margaret was part of across the West Midlands from the 1960s to the 1980s - spanning anti-war campaigning, migrant support, anti-racism, and international solidarity.
The artists have been revisiting the archive, drawing out personal connections and examining the ways these histories resonate with contemporary struggles. During the residency, they will produce work-in-progress informed by the collection - experimenting with print, textiles, projection, and sculpture as they develop new work with support from Coventry Biennial.
You can visit them at the gallery during this time. Their studio will be open to the public during the residency, so drop in to see what they’re working on.
Alongside the residency, they will host a creative writing workshop on Saturday 14 November (tickets, coming soon).
This project is supported by and delivered in partnership with Coventry Art Show, presented as part of the fringe programme Moments of Being alongside British Art Show 10.
