The Mee Club Workshop 2: Comedy & True Life

WORKSHOP LEADER: RICH STOKES

Join the Mee Club as they guide you through storytelling, helping you to find your unique style and refine your stories.

The Mee Club workshops are designed to give you confidence and skills to tell your tale. Each one is different so come to one or all!

Some of history's finest comedians are, first and foremost, great storytellers. Entertainers such as Dave Allen, Billy Connolly, Josie Long and Stewart Lee combine stories and material from their own lives to create timeless comedy.

In this workshop we will examine how to spin events from your own life into narrative-driven comedic storytelling. We will look at how to find the funny in everyday events, how to find themes and how to let your material grow, and how to decide when to tell the exact truth (and when it's probably best not to.)

Maybe you're about to deliver a wedding speech. Perhaps you're already a storyteller who's looking to expand upon their current practice. Or it could be that you've always been interested in performing and would like to take your first steps in a safe supportive environment. If any of these apply, then this workshop is for you and beginners are welcome!

Rich Stokes is an award-winning writer, storyteller and comedian from Birmingham.

The Mee Club in residence at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum is funded by Arts Council England.
