Drop-in | £2.50 per child. Under 3s go free

Aimed at ages 3+, but all are welcome

Throughout the Easter holidays, families are invited to join us for a range of drop-in arts and crafts activities. Inspired by our Divided Selves exhibition, these daily workshops will explore themes of identity, home and community. This is a great opportunity to get creative with self-expression using different mediums and recyclable materials, producing art that you can take home and treasure.

You may also choose to explore the galleries further for more inspiration and take some time to do some sketching or photography around the gallery spaces to help your children engage with our collections further. Find out more about the activities on offer below.

Memory Homes - Sat 1, Mon 3 & Tue 4 Apr

Build a model home inspired by the past, present or imagined future. Use resources such as lollipops, matchsticks, doweling and glue to construct your home, then add memories and stories to the outside using colourful markers and paper. This workshop takes inspiration from work by artists Sophie Ernst and Sofia Karim, on display in our Divided Selves exhibition.

Samosa Packet Prints - Wed 5 & Thu 6 Apr

Take inspiration from artist Sofia Karim’s work using homemade samosa packets to carry messages. Learn the process of making your own samosa packet out of paper, then use mono-printing techniques to add messages and drawings onto your newly crafted packet. In the session, we will provide you with a free samosa at the end (whilst our supply of samosas last). Craving more? You can also take a samosa recipe to try out at home or book onto our Samosa-making Art Masterclass this Easter.

Playful Poster Art - Fri 7 & Sat 8 Apr

Create a fabric poster to influence social change, take home and display it in your window. Your child will bring their ideas, designs and chosen messages to life using an array of different resources and embellishments, helping them to understand gentle acts of change through art.

Perfect Pin Boards - Mon 10 & Tue 11 Apr

Design your own pin board and use it as a space for drawings, photographs, memories and stories. Use playful process art to personalise the cork pin boards, then add a layer of paint and a sprinkle of glitter to make a multi-layered image. Take home and display your board, we will supply you with pins.

Newsprint Portraits - Wed 12 & Thu 13 Apr

Use newspaper and mixed media to create a themed abstract portrait and experiment by collaging with coloured paper contrasted with a newsprint background. This workshop is inspired by the theme of identity in our Divided Selves exhibition.

Life-size Drawings - Fri 14 & Sat 15 Apr

Make life-sized drawings! Trace around your body on giant paper and then immerse yourself in fabric, paper and pens to embellish your portrait with plants, rainbows and all the things that you love. How will your portrait express who you are? Once your masterpiece is complete, you can roll it up to take it home.
