First 50 years of the Coventry Society: Saving Coventry's Heritage Buildings

This talk by Paul Maddocks, who was one of the founding members of the Coventry Society, will discuss how the Coventry Society started, and look at some of its ups and downs over the years trying to save Coventry's heritage buildings.

Starting from the founded in 1970 of the Coventry Civic Amenities Society, around the time of the fight to save the threatened Kirby House, Little Park Street. Coventry's other heritage buildings needed protection and it has campaigned for them to be saved, and works actively to find new uses for old buildings.

The Coventry Society campaigns for a quality Coventry raising awareness of what quality means and campaigns for improvements in design of open spaces, buildings, street furniture. By co-operating with the city council, community groups, architects and developers to promote quality in the built environment.
